National Gallery of Jamaica

National Gallery Profile

The National Gallery charts the growth and development of Jamaica’s greatest artistic endeavours, from Taino Indian artefacts to Spanish and English colonial art, from the early pioneers to the very latest contemporary works by Jamaican artists.

All of Jamaican life is shown in our collections: from the depiction of rural Jamaican life and landscape, to the people and work of the city; from religious visions, history and social criticism to portraiture, tradition, fantasy and folklore.

See the works of Jamaica’s most famous artists, including Mallica “Kapo” Reynolds, Barrington Watson, Albert Huie, Carl Abrahams, John Dunkley, Edna Manley and many more.

The National Gallery staff can provide a comprehensive overview of the development of Jamaican art, including mainstream and intuitive (self-taught) art.
